Swimming Pool
Above Ground Installation

A swimming pool above ground installation requires a few key steps to ensure that all local standards and requirements are met.

Installing a swimming pool can be a very interesting and exciting experience, since each area or type of pool requires different strategies. The first step is to make sure all building permits and inspections have been approved. After that, installation can take between 2-3 weeks from the excavation to the final placement.

Installation Process

Swimming Pool Above Ground Installation The main steps of swimming pool above ground installation will include:

  • Dirt, sod, and sand removal
  • Leveling of the site
  • Site drainage
  • Frame foundation and site leveling
  • Installation of pool liner base material
  • Pool base beveling
  • Pool wall assembly
  • Liner installation
  • Excavated material removal
  • Filling and final install

Steps in Swimming pool Above Ground Installation

Installation begins with the excavation phase, and this involves digging up all the sod, sand, and dirt of the selected area. At this time, the outline and site must have been approved by the inspector and the builder can begin digging around any gas and pipe lines.

Once the hole has been created, the higher ground needs to be leveled to the lowest grade level. Leveling is the next stage, and this will ensure that the liner gets placed evenly.

Site Drainage requires removing any excess water in the hole created. Sometimes an additional drain tile or well is created to provide a natural slope for drainage to occur.

The frame foundation and leveling block is constructed with patio stones that serve as posts right beneath the pool frame. These are set around the perimeter of the pool and at exactly the same level. Positioning the blocks evenly is very important.

The pool liner base material is usually made of a sand and clay mixture, and this will serve as a protectant of the pool site and vinyl liner that will go above this. The base will reduce the chances of destruction from root or soil changes.

Pool base beveling and creating a cove will involve building around the inside perimeter of the pool wall, and packing sand against it to form a cove. After that, pool wall assembly can begin. This will require fitting the liner properly and stretching it to capacity for the tightest fit.

Liner installation requires patience and will involve a lot of trial and error. Although it is difficult to straighten out wrinkles, it is important to ensure that the material is smooth on all sides.

Frame assembly will require attaching posts and rails securely around the perimeter. This step ensures that the pool itself has something to fit into.

The final steps of swimming pool above ground installation involve disposing of the excavated material and rubbish, and adding water.
