An Explanation for Non-Chemists

Heatsavr™ works by slowing evaporation from the surface of a swimming pool; either indoor or outdoor.

When your pool is warmer than the air around it, or when the air has lower than 100% humidity, your pool 'sweats'. Invisible steam escapes into the air and blows away from outdoor pools, or is exhausted by the air handling system of an indoor pool. It takes fuel energy to heat the pool water, and fuel costs money. The escaping steam of a pool is 70% of the cost of keeping your pool water warm enough to attract paying customers. Heatsavr™ is an effective method in reducing the steam loss per hour and therefore the dollar cost of keeping your pool warm. It does this by forming a safe invisible layer one to two molecules thick on the surface of the pool.

Heatsavr™ is a mixture of carefully chosen ingredients which are lighter than water so that they automatically float to the surface. They are attracted to each other so that they try always to form a perfect very thin layer over the whole pool surface. They are individually so small that they are 500 times smaller than the spaces in a super high quality filter. After a swimmer stops disturbing the water they rush to reform a complete layer because they are molecularly organized and happiest that way. And most importantly - when they are in position they REDUCE THE SWEATING SPEED OF THE POOL BY UP TO ONE HALF.

Heatsavr™ theoretically could save half your heat bill if no one ever swam in the pool and if the circulation pump were turned off. This is not likely but Heatsavr™ does achieve savings as high as 40%. Most pools will find energy bill reductions between 17% and 30%. For every dollar spent on Heatsavr™, you should expect a minimum of three dollars off your heat bill.

Pool managers buy Heatsavr™ for a variety of reasons. Saving money on their energy bills is the biggest one. Others are already using a pool blanket and find that while there are energy savings, there are also inconveniences and that staff are not motivated to use the blankets correctly and consistently. Heatsavr™'s ease of use without loss of energy savings is attractive to these operators. Some indoor pool operators are primarily interested in reducing the humidity levels in their pool rooms. Heat Saver Works on Indoor Air Conditioned Pools Too!

In hot climates or the summer season

Many areas of the world have significant numbers of air conditioned indoor pools and are also subject to very high outside temperatures for much of the year. California, Arizona, Florida, Texas and all of the hot humid southern states would be included in this definition. This type of pool has high energy costs which can be alleviated by the use of Heatsavr™.

We would like to point out that an indoor airconditioned pool must be viewed as a system in order to see what the energy inputs are and why they are neccessary. The inputs are:

1. Heat (usually gas) to maintain the pool water at a temperature of about 83F.
2. Cooling (electrically) of the pool room air to a temperature which is comfortable to the pool users
3. Dehumidifying the pool room air to a level which the users find comfortable.

A striking point is that #1 is in direct opposition to #2 and #3 because the pool user wants an air temperature of 80F or less and humidity of about 60-70%. So what we find is that the pool owner is paying for natural gas to heat the pool water so that it will evaporate into the air(the way pools lose 90% of their heat). Then the owner pays for electricity to cool and dehumidify the air he has just heated and humidified using gas heat lost by the pool water. Then (to please his customers) he makes the whole thing worse by electrically cooling the air to a temperature lower than the pool water which has the effect of increasing the speed of heat and water loss from the pool. Drying the air for customer comfort increases the heat loss and water evaporation speed from the pool even further. Gas heat is not cheap and electric cooling and dehumidifying is very expensive. What is needed is a method of slowing the evaporation of heat from the pool water to the pool room air.

Heatsavr™ has exactly this effect. Used as directed Heatsavr™ will slow the evaporation from the pool surface by between 15 and 40%. This will result in a natural gas saving because less energy will be required to maintain the pool at the desired temperature. There will also be a reduced load on the airconditioning system because less heat and much less water vapor will have to be removed from the air to maintain the required comfort. As yet we have no data on the energy saved on airconditioning but it is likely to be in the range of 10-20% and because of the high cost of electric power the dollar savings will probably be more than the gas dollar savings.

Air conditioned indoor pools are very high users of energy because the swimmers and loungers have environmental expectations which require both gas water heat and electric air cooling to keep both groups happy in the same room. Heatsavr™ works by slowing the transfer of heat and water vapor from the pool to the pool room atmosphere. This will have beneficial effects on both the water heating and air cooling bills. This is a highly recommended use for Heatsavr™.
